Ok the final day is here. The third top made from 1 shirt and 1/2 yard of fabric. (only I cheated and used some other random scrap for the top part) The summer party top! Or perhaps end of summer party top as the case may seem.
For this one I used a tank that fits well and traced it out for the top and middle band. Then I used a wider piece of the jersey print to act as the skirt. Cut to the length you want it. For the white part I made it fully lined so cut out 4 of them.
Then sew a front and back piece together at the shoulders. Do this twice then line both pieces up right sides together. Then cut down the middle of the back. (you don't have to do this but it makes the construction easier and allows for some cute buttons later) next sew along the neckline and side back, then sew the arm openings.
Turn it right side out and it should look like this.
Sew the side seams together under the arm openings and you should have a top done.
Next take the two middle band pieces and sew them together at the sides to create a loop. Then with right sides together sew the band to the top piece overlap the back pieces by a little.
Next the skirt sew the side seam on this as well. Then gather the top edge. Sew it to the band with the right sides together.
Then you should have something like this. A simple tank dress.
To jazz it up a bit I added a pleated silk ribbon around the waist. Hint: if you stretch the middle band slightly as you sew the ribbon on it will allow the top to stretch when you put it on.
I added buttons and loops to the back and that's it.
Something casual yet slightly dressy for all of those summer parties. She looks unhappy, but it's only because she want to do this:
She likes to spy on the neighbors cats. Maybe someday we will get her, her own cat.. but maybe not.
