| Made from combining an old shirt and skirt came this sweet little dress. The skirt is lined since all the fabrics are lightweight cotton. I used one half of the belt from the orginal dress; finishing the raw edges. I added buttonholes and buttons in between the existing ones to make the scale more appropriate for a toddler. The sleeves are from the original shirt, but cut down to fit. The rosettes are a couple of different styles - the striped one is using the bottom part of the shirt placket. Then not to top things off, a purse was made with the left over fabric. |
I rescued two shirts from the Goodwill bag.
From the two knit shirts, came a unique toddler hoodie.
I liked the asymmetry, contrasting elements, and the stripes in the fabric.
It even has a cool open pocket!
After taking the pictures, I told this boy he could take it off, and he said he wanted to keep it on because "I like this big pocket on my belly."

Inspired by the bright colors hitting the shelves for spring, I quickly decided upon the house dress I scored at my local thrift shop! It was months ago, and I just knew I would be able to use it one day, even though my husband rolled his eyes when I explain with great joy it was $1! I love the color blocking I have seen and well, what can I say, I happen to be a sucker for the stripes splashed all over Prada and Marc Jacobs shows, so it stands to reason I had to incorporate them some how. By the time I was finished, the dress gave off an energy of fun and excitement and all I could think of is going to the circus! So if I could dress the ringmaster...or would it be ringmistress? Not important....anyway, I would put her in this!

*I made the jacket from a woman's blazer. It was some my mother-in-law's old stuff that I wanted for such projects:) I wanted to go for the military jacket fashion, but still make it feminine enough. The cuffs and the sleeves have just a bit of a gather, just slightly. Again to make it more feminine, but still keep it tailored. The buttons have a coat of arms emblem that help to complete the look. I made the the white ruffle shirt from a man's white button up shirt. It's a very clean tailored look. It has 1 1/2 inch straps with ruffles on the outer edge. I made the leggins from the sleeves of a man's long sleeve jersey knit T-shirt.

What to do with a pile of old vacation t-shirts? Cut them up and create something better! The design for this shirt is loosely based on a pattern in the book Sewing Clothes Kids Love by Nancy Langdon. I pieced together 4 shirts to create a one-of-a-kind hoodie that any little guy or girl would love. The memory of vacations past can live on!

Some shirts should never have been made...
But this oh so stylish number from the 70's is making a comeback!
This darling little dress is perfect for any tot with its gathered sleeves, nice full skirt perfect for twirling, simple mandarin collar, and 3 rows of ruffles right down the front.
And every girl knows you simply cannot leave the house without matching boots!
Now your tot is ready to take on the world with a bit of ruffle up top and some 3 button boots made for exploring

Every year I take my kids to visit my Great Grandma Olivia for Christmas. We have fun visiting and listening to her stories. But before she sends us home I get sent home with a bag of dresses that I should be wearing because I'm a lady... and ladies wear dresses not trousers. This year she sent me home with this wonderful denim jumper.
Because my 98 year old grandma doesn't have internet access I'm happy to share with you the lovely dress I cut up and turned into trousers... what else!?
So here they are Olivia's Denim Palazzo Pants! |
